What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements, and these movements reflect the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting & aerobic conditioning. By employing a constantly varied approach to training, functional movements and intensity lead to dramatic improvements in fitness.
Overall, the aim of CrossFit is to forge a broad, general and inclusive fitness supported by measurable, observable and repeatable results. The program prepares trainees for any physical contingency – not only for the unknown but for the unknowable, too. Our specialty is not specialising.
While CrossFit challenges the world’s fittest, the program is designed for universal scalability, making it the perfect application for any committed individual, regardless of experience. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change the program. The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree, not kind.
Here at CrossFit Letterkenny we live by the mantra “results based fitness”, give us one year of your life & we will change that life forever. CrossFit will become more than just a class you attend, it will come to define part of who you are through the social interactions within our class & our community.
How Do I Start?
Every single member of our classes must first go through our beginner program, the “Fundamentals”, before joining mainstream classes. This helps to ensure that everyone has good movement patterns, is aware of class structure & protocols in addition to building confidence. We understand how daunting it can be just to walk through the door of a gym, but believe us, that is the hardest part, once you walk through our door you will be made feel right at home! In addition, we also have a ladies only CrossFit class for those who would rather train in a ladies only environment.

Kids & Teens
We have within our capabilities as parents & coaches to help children gain a wealth of physical literacy that will stand the test of time, ensuring a much healthier & happier future. We offer strength & conditioning for Kids aged 7-11 years & strength & conditioning for Teens aged 12-16 years. The main focus of our kids program is fun through activity.
The main focus of our Teens program is mastery of skills. We use age appropriate strength training, gymnastics and conditioning, delivered in a fun environment that actually helps children enjoy training & exercise. Evidence suggests that by using a broad variety of training methods at a young age increases your child’s participation in sport and physical activity well into adulthood. Children are very receptive & absorb new information/skills at a rate that adults could only dream of. Getting them involved in structured training at a young age has been proven to increase their likelihood of not only maintaining that activity as they get older, but also to excel at other sporting disciplines. Our Kids/Teens programs have helped us develop international standard Olympic weightlifters by progressing them from kids classes, into teens classes & then into adult classes with seamless transitions.
By using the same coaches across all age groups we have an opportunity to develop their strengths & weaknesses at an appropriate rate, so when they are ready to move to the next stage, they will do so with the same coaches. We have a proven safe & effective method of helping our junior athlete’s progress to high standards in just a few short years.
